Seafrigo Group is a global leader in temperature-controlled logistics and cold chain freight, operating across 11 countries and 5 continents with a workforce of 3,000 people — including remote staff, third-party suppliers, and contract workers. When they decided to modernise their employee relations and compliance function, they started from scratch. What they built became a competitive advantage.

The Challenge
Paper, email, spreadsheets — and a compliance function
running on goodwill
Paper, email, spreadsheets — and a compliance function running on goodwill
Before SafeWork, Seafrigo's employee relations, risk, and compliance processes were built on manual infrastructure: paper records, email chains, and spreadsheets. For a business operating across five continents, in multiple languages, with a dispersed workforce that included permanent staff, remote employees, contract workers, and third-party suppliers, that approach created real exposure. Concerns were slow to surface. Governance was inconsistent across regions. There was no structured channel for staff to speak up — and no data layer to identify trends, spot root causes, or give business stakeholders the visibility they needed to act.
The pressure to modernise was also regulatory. French legislation on corporate governance was tightening, and Seafrigo — as a French-headquartered global operator — needed a compliance function that could meet those obligations at scale. Their Ecovadis rating, a key indicator of sustainability and governance performance used by global procurement teams, sat at Silver. Achieving Gold would signal to existing and prospective clients that Seafrigo operated to a higher standard. The gap between where they were and where they needed to be was structural — and it required more than a new policy document.

The Solution
A complete modernisation — from code of conduct to
live platform
SafeWork worked with Seafrigo from the ground up. The engagement began with the foundations: building out a new Code of Conduct, with SafeWork embedded directly into it as the operational mechanism for reporting and governance. This wasn't a platform bolted onto existing policy — SafeWork was written into the Code of Conduct itself, physically created in partnership with Seafrigo's leadership team. Clear channels were created for staff to raise concerns — across mobile and web, available to all 3,000 people in the Seafrigo workforce regardless of role, location, or employment type. Remote staff, third- party suppliers, and contract workers were brought into the same system as permanent employees for the first time.

The platform replaced the fragmented paper and email process with structured, data- driven workflows — covering incident and concern reporting, investigation management, risk detection, and governance tracking. Real-time analytics gave Seafrigo's leadership team access to trend analysis and root cause data that had previously been invisible. The solution also put Seafrigo in a strong position against France's evolving corporate governance legislation, giving the business the documented processes, audit trails, and reporting infrastructure that regulators and global clients increasingly require.

The Results
Gold rated. New business won. Staff speaking up.
Seafrigo achieved Ecovadis Gold — a rating that reflects not just policy intent but operational evidence of strong governance, ethical conduct, and compliance culture. Early issue detection doubled. Adoption across the 3,000-strong workforce hit record highs — across permanent staff, contractors, and third-party suppliers on both mobile and web. The reporting channels that replaced email and paper were not just used. They were trusted.

The commercial impact was direct. Seafrigo's improved governance credentials — evidenced by the Ecovadis Gold rating and a SafeWork-embedded Code of Conduct — helped the business win new contracts with clients for whom supplier compliance standards are a procurement requirement. In a logistics sector where ESG and governance performance increasingly determines who gets on the shortlist, Seafrigo's modernisation became a differentiator. The work that started as an internal improvement programme ended up winning business.
